Announcing Sports Innovation Week
[BOSTON, MASS., February 20, 2018.] Sports Innovation Lab and WeWork are announcing the nation's first ever "Sports Innovation Week" in Boston from February 26 through March 2. "Sports Innovation Week" will showcase leaders of both sports and technology through a combination of thought-leadership and networking events. The events will be hosted at 200 Portland St., home of the first ever Sports Innovation Lab powered by WeWork.
Drawing on their extensive network of leaders in the sports-tech industry, the Sports Innovation Lab is once again pushing forward the conversation in the world of sports and technology. Speakers such as Matt Chelap, VP at Octagon, Julie Johnson, President of Armored Things, and Eric Janszen, CEO of VirZOOM will be joining Sports Innovation Lab CEO Angela Ruggiero for panel discussions and sessions throughout the week, including: Hackers at the Gate: Stadium Security in the Age of IoT, Esports Beyond the Hype, presented by Octagon, and Your Fans Don't Live Here Anymore. Registration for all the events are open online.
The Sports Innovation Week is a celebration of the launch of the new Sports Innovation Lab, Powered by WeWork, at the Portland Street offices. “The whole week of activity is representative of all the activities we have planned and programmed throughout the year at the lab,” said Sports Innovation Lab CEO, and four-time Olympian, Angela Ruggiero. “It’s a great example of our core values, and our belief that innovation does not happen alone—that a spirit of inquiry and an emphasis on exploration are essential to growth.” The lab blends physical co-working lab space with sports technology programming and services. The founding companies in the space are Octagon, Remote Harbor, WePlayed, ScoutDay, and Drivn.
The entire week is made possible through a series of partnerships with leading companies in sports-tech. These partner organizations recognize the importance of open dialogue and collaboration for driving innovation. WeWork, Octagon, Orig3n, IDA Ireland, and MassChallenge and the chamber of commerce of greater Boston have each contributed to the production of the week’s worth of thought-leadership and networking.
